The former Debenhams store has been selected by Folkestone and Hythe District Council for regeneration [Deadline 10 March 2026]
Folkestone town centre is undergoing works following the 2020 Place Plan to regenerate and improve the area.
Phase 1 of the scheme is complete whilst Phase 2 & 3 are in progress. The final two phases (4 & 5) are set to complete by summer 2026.
At the centre of the works, located on the corner of Bouverie Place and Sandgate Road, is Folca.
The former Debenhams store, Folca is compromised of two parts. Folca 1 is the Edwardian building on Bouverie Place while Folca 2 is an Art Deco structure on Sandygate Road.
Debenhams closed in 2020 after sitting on the site for 32 years and, in 2021, the building was used as a temporary vaccination centre during COVID-19.
Folkestone and Hythe District Council are seeking a lead designer for Folca 2 to create a mixed-use medical and commercial hub on the high street.
Enquiries to participate must be submitted by 10 March and submissions in by 1pm on 26 March.
